Cribs and mini cribs are two fantastic options for providing your little one with a safe and comfortable place to sleep. Now, the question many moms and dads ask is: how long can a mini crib be used, and how long can a crib be used? Normally, babies move from a mini crib to a crib at 6 months and from a crib to a bed at 2 years old.
The mini crib is perfect for your baby's first months, from newborn to approximately 4 to 6 months of age. Generally, when your little one starts to sit or stand up on their own, it's time to say goodbye to the mini crib. The idea is that they feel comfortable and safe in it, and that it adapts to their size and weight.
After 6 months, your baby will need to sleep in a larger space and it will be time to move them to a crib. Here they will have enough space to sleep for many months as they grow. The crib can be used from birth until around 2 or 3 years of age.
Use common sense: seek comfort for your baby.
Please note! Remember that these age limits are general guidelines. At ECUS Kids, we also add a very important factor when you ask us at what age to use a mini crib or crib: common sense.
Every child is different, and some may be taller or more active, so you should always take your little one's individual needs into account. It is always important to consider your baby's size and development to ensure they are comfortable and safe in their crib or mini crib. And don't forget to read the manufacturer's instructions for specific recommendations for each model and to determine the maximum recommended age for each particular crib or mini crib.
If, for example, you see that your baby no longer fits comfortably in the mini crib before reaching 6 months of age, why wait? You can switch to a crib when you think it's appropriate, when you see that your baby is no longer comfortable. The same applies in reverse: if your baby is over 6 months old and small, and you think they are still sleeping comfortably in the mini crib, you can wait a little longer to change them.
Every baby grows at a different rate, just as mini cribs and carrycots come in different sizes. You can follow the recommendations, but when you see that your baby is no longer comfortable and needs more space to sleep, that is the right age to move them to a crib.
Can a baby continue to sleep in a crib if they are over 24 months old?
Yes, on our part. ECUS Kids crib mattresses are designed to support up to 20 kg. When they reach this weight, children are usually around 5-6 years old (again, this is relative and will depend on their growth rate). Therefore, if you want to use the crib mattress until the age of 3 or older, there would be no problem as long as the child does not exceed 20 kg, the weight at which we no longer guarantee the firmness of our crib mattresses.
What if we don't use a mini crib? Can a crib be used from birth?
Of course. Many parents prefer to be more practical and use the crib from birth. All of our crib mattresses can also be used from birth.
If you decide to use a crib from birth, be sure to adjust the height of the mattress so that it is in the highest possible position, which will make it easier to access the baby and reduce the need to bend down too much. As your baby grows and begins to move more actively, you can lower the mattress to a lower position to keep them safe inside the crib.
