You have probably noticed that your baby's skin is not the same as yours. When we are born, we have very thin and delicate skin. This makes it more susceptible to external factors such as chemicals, temperature, and friction. These irritations and damages are due to the fact that the epidermis (the outermost layer of the skin) is thinner than that of adults.
The skin is an organ that covers our entire body, protecting us from the outside world. Over time, it changes, matures, and ages. That is why we have to take care of it. It is not simply a visible layer; it is what alerts us when something happens to us.
Sensitive skin is more common in babies and can even appear in the first six months of life. Symptoms can include blisters, dry skin, changes in skin color, redness, and a long list of other skin signs that warn us that something is wrong.
If this happens to your baby, in addition to visiting the pediatrician, you can take measures at home to make friction with everyday objects (sofa, mattress, high chairs, etc.) as bearable as possible for your little one.
Here are some tips for natural remedies you can use at home:
Always keep the skin clean and dry.
Change your baby's diaper often to keep the area dry and clean. If you see that the area is very red, you can leave the diaper off for a while to allow the affected area to improve.
Use pH-neutral soap
The chemical additives in conventional soap can further irritate your baby's skin. Just as when drying them after a bath, do not rub them with a towel, as this can worsen their skin condition.
Also, when bathing your baby, apply the sponge with small dabs. Do not bathe them as you would yourself.
Clothing made from natural fibers
This is very important because most of the time it is what will be closest to their body. Use 100% soft cotton; synthetic fibers will not do them any good.
At ECUS Kids, we care about the safety of all babies, and we have realized that atopic skin is a widespread problem, as approximately 30% of children and 10% of adults in the Spanish population suffer from it.
That's why our Mimo mattress is ideal for this type of skin.
This new and improved version of the mattress, especially suitable for sensitive and atopic skin, features a special fabric for this type of skin:
- Natural Tencel: an eco-friendly and biodegradable fiber made from wood pulp. Soft, comfortable, and perfect for clothing and home textiles.
- SkinCare treatment with argan oil.
- Feran Ice: used to bring freshness to the fabric. It soothes itching and discomfort. This makes the mattress more breathable and cooler.
In addition, its core consists of two layers. The top layer (the one in contact with the baby) is made of wave-shaped memory foam. This wave-shaped design allows the mattress to better adapt to the baby's body and movements during the night without exerting pressure, reducing the risk of plagiocephaly and suffocation. The base of the mattress is made of Oxígena foam, which provides the right firmness for healthy sleep.
