When we talk about caring for our babies' skin, we tend to think about creams, gentle baths, or clothing fabrics... but what about the mattress? What touches your baby's skin every night (and several times a day during naps) also matters, and a lot.
If your little one has sensitive skin or frequent skin reactions, the mattress can be a great ally... or a problem. In this article, we'll tell you why and how to choose the best mattress to protect your skin.
Baby skin is sensitive
During the first years of life, a baby's skin is up to five times thinner than that of an adult. This means that is more vulnerable to external agents such as sweat, bacteria, dust, mites, or even certain textile treatments.
In babies with atopic dermatitis, the skin acts as a very fragile barrier. Any rough fabric, lack of breathability, or accumulation of moisture can aggravate flare-ups, cause itching, and make it difficult to sleep.
And what does the mattress have to do with it?
A poorly ventilated mattress or one made of synthetic fabrics can increase humidity and heat, promoting the proliferation of bacteria and irritation. Therefore, if your baby has atopic or sensitive skin, you should also take care where they sleep.
Ideally, the mattress should meet three key conditions:
- Breathability: allows the skin to breathe and prevents sweat from accumulating.
- Soft, hypoallergenic fabrics: such as Tencel, which is natural, soft to the touch, and regulates temperature.
- Antimicrobial treatments: which will help maintain hygiene without irritating the skin.
Mimo: the mattress designed to care for your skin
At ECUS Kids, we designed Mimo, a crib mattress specifically created for babies with sensitive skin or atopic tendencies. Its natural Tencel fabric includes a SkinCare treatment with argan oil, which naturally moisturizes and protects, and Feran Ice, a cooling finish that helps regulate temperature.
In addition, its contoured foam core improves adaptability and ventilation, and is fully removable and washable to maintain hygiene at all times. Because we not only want your baby to sleep well, but also without irritation, rashes, or discomfort.
The break is also felt on the skin
Give your little one an environment that cares for their well-being from the very first contact. Because care begins where they spend most of their time: their mattress.
