Family vacations are moments to remember. If this is your first summer with your baby, you are surely planning every detail with Mimo... and rest cannot be left out. Sleeping well away from home is not always easy, especially for little ones, who need routine, comfort, and security to feel calm.
In this article, we help you prepare everything you need to ensure your baby sleeps well during the holidays, wherever you are.
New environments, same care
When we change location, the noises, temperature, light, and even the smell of the environment change. All of this influences a baby's sleep. Therefore, it is a good idea to try to reproduce their routines and usual sleeping environment as much as possible. You don't need to take the whole room with you, but you should take some basics that give them a sense of familiarity and protection.
Checklist for traveling with babies
Here is a handy checklist so you don't forget the most important things:
- Adequate sleeping surface. If your baby is going to sleep in a travel cot or a bed other than their usual one, make sure the mattress is firm, breathable, and comfortable. There are portable mattresses that are well suited to these situations, such as roll-up or foldable models made from cool fabric.
- Light bedding. In summer, cotton sheets, muslin sheets, or breathable sleeping bags are best. Avoid thick blankets or synthetic materials that can cause overheating.
- Familiar items. Bringing their favorite stuffed animal, a blanket with their scent, or even their usual sheet can make them feel very secure. Babies notice more than we imagine!
- Mattress protector. Essential for maintaining hygiene, especially in shared accommodation or if your little one still wears diapers.
- Special pillow if already in use. If your baby has already started using a pillow, make sure it is appropriate for their age and posture. Some options, such as the Care® Pillow Mini, are designed to prevent plagiocephaly even when sleeping away from home.
Extra tips for a peaceful night's sleep
- Maintain your usual schedule whenever possible.
- Take advantage of the cool, shady moments for naps.
- Ensure the room is well ventilated and avoid sudden changes in temperature.
Don't change everything at once: a new environment is already enough of a change, so if something works at home, take it with you!
A more relaxed journey... when everyone is resting
Traveling with a baby can be easier than it seems if we anticipate their needs. Sleeping well not only helps their development and well-being, it also improves everyone's experience. With calm, love, and a little planning, this summer will be unforgettable.
