April 4 is World Plagiocephaly Day, a day that should serve to raise awareness about this cranial deformity that affects 47% of babies and is becoming increasingly common, making it one of the main pathologies treated by pediatric and child rehabilitation services.
According to experts, the use of strollers, hammocks, and cradles, where the baby is unable to move and remains for long periods of time with their head exerting pressure on a hard surface, may have led to an increase in cases of plagiocephaly. Also, the medical recommendation to lay them down in the supine position, i.e., on their backs, as a preventive measure to avoid any risk of suffocation and thus sudden infant death syndrome.
The importance of prevention
Although at first glance it may seem like only an aesthetic problem, the truth is that plagiocephaly, in more severe cases, can be related to torticollis, otitis media and a predisposition to ear infections, facial asymmetry that can lead to visual and hearing problems, and even motor and cognitive development problems that hinder psychomotor skills and the learning process in babies.
That is why it is so important to raise awareness of plagiocephaly and make moms and dads aware of it. They should regularly check the shape of their baby's head during the first months of life so that they can take preventive measures or start treating it as soon as possible.
ECUS Kids' mission is to put an end to plagiocephaly.
At ECUS Kids, we have set ourselves the mission of ending plagiocephaly in babies in a very simple and non-intrusive way: while they sleep. ECUS Kids mattresses are designed and certified for the prevention of plagiocephaly due to their pyramid-shaped foam core, which creates numerous support points and reduces pressure on babies' heads by up to 70%.
Our mattresses have been scientifically tested and certified by the Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products (AEMPS). This allows us to guarantee that babies who use our mattresses will not develop plagiocephaly and, if they already have it when they start using them, it will not worsen and may even improve.
We are delighted to see how, every day, the counter on our website increases, which means that more and more moms and dads are trusting our mattresses to protect their babies from plagiocephaly. Today, ECUS Kids has protected almost 140,000 babies from plagiocephaly thanks to its mattresses.
Let's keep growing!
