How to sleep better during pregnancy?

¿Cómo dormir mejor durante el embarazo?

How to sleep better during pregnancy? It is well known that once we become parents, our sleep is no longer what it used to be. What many people don't realize before becoming parents is that even before the baby is born, we start to lose hours of sleep and the quality of our sleep begins to deteriorate. Discomfort, heartburn, aches, cramps, countless trips to the bathroom during the night... It can be very difficult to get enough sleep during pregnancy.

Getting plenty of rest during pregnancy is essential for your well-being and the healthy development of your baby. However, many pregnant women find that sleeping can be a challenge due to the physical and hormonal changes they experience. Here are some tips to help you sleep better during this important stage of your life.

How to sleep better during pregnancy?

Avoid liquids before bedtime

It is important to stay hydrated throughout the day. We recommend that you stop drinking fluids about two hours before bedtime, if you want to avoid constant trips to the bathroom. Drinking fluids can stimulate the baby, and of course, no one wants a gymnastics class and ninja kicks inside their body in the middle of the night. There you go! A simple way to sleep better during pregnancy... and you didn't even know it.

Caffeine and spicy foods can also make it difficult to fall asleep. Try to avoid them several hours before going to bed.

Empty your bladder completely.

Before going to bed, whether we feel like it or not, it is best to empty our bladder. How many times have you lain down in bed and immediately had to get up and go to the bathroom? Let's save ourselves the frustration and do things right from the start.

Buy a good pillow

Use extra pillows to support your belly, back, and hips. You can also try different sleeping positions, such as lying on your side with your legs bent.

It may seem like a whim, but a pregnancy pillow is an excellent purchase. You will notice how the quality of your rest improves with these pillows. They relieve pressure and have a very pleasant, cozy effect. You may like it so much that you will continue to use it even after you have given birth.

Have you tried the sofa?

If it hasn't happened to you yet, it will. During the last few weeks, sleeping can be almost impossible. You are not comfortable in bed, no matter how you position yourself. We recommend that you try sleeping on the sofa; you are sure to fall asleep.

Create a bedtime routine

It's not just the little ones in the house who need a bedtime routine to know when it's time to sleep, adults do too. Establishing activities to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and relax is essential: going for a walk with your partner, taking a hot shower, listening to some background music, or finishing that book that's been sitting on your table for weeks.

Being consistent in our routine will help our bodies get used to the fact that, when a certain time comes and we do certain activities, it is time to get ready for bed.

With these five tips, we know that sleeping better during pregnancy is possible. You just have to get used to a few small changes and this new stage in your life. Remember that every pregnant woman is unique, so it's important to find what works best for you. What helped you sleep better during pregnancy? Did you have any special rituals?
