ECUS Kids with Afacmur in the fight against childhood cancer

Ecus Kids con Afacmur en la lucha contra el cáncer infantil

To mark International Childhood Cancer Day, ECUS Kids has launched a charity campaign. For every mattress we sell between February 15 and 22, we will donate €10 to Afacmur, the Association of Families of Children with Cancer in the Region of Murcia.

Customers who purchase an ECUS Kids mattress on our website this week will receive a free mattress protector as a thank you for supporting the campaign.

With this campaign, we want to show our support for children and families who are suffering or have had to suffer from this disease, and do our bit for this cause, which we hope will one day be a thing of the past. We are also taking this opportunity to raise awareness of childhood cancer and educate society about the importance of prevention and allocating resources to its treatment.

The charity campaign against childhood cancer is part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program. At ECUS Kids, we believe that there is no better way to go far than to act close to home. That is why the proceeds from this campaign will go to an association in our region, Afacmur.

What is Afacmur?

Afacmur is a non-profit association, declared to be of public interest, whose mission is to improve the quality of life of children and adolescents affected by cancer and their families, through care, support, and psychosocial, educational, and recreational accompaniment, as well as raising awareness and sensitivity in society.

It was founded in 1996 by a group of parents who had gone through the experience of having a child with cancer. After their experience, they saw the need to join forces and try to address neglected and forgotten aspects of the lives of children and adolescents with cancer and their families in the Region of Murcia. Its first major achievement was the creation of the Pediatric Oncohematology Unit at the Virgen de la Arrixaca University Clinical Hospital. It is part of the Spanish Federation of Parents of Children with Cancer, which is made up of associations throughout Spain.

Childhood cancer in the Region of Murcia

The Region of Murcia records an average of 64 new diagnoses of childhood cancer per year, according to the latest study by the Regional Ministry of Health on the incidence of cancer in children and adolescents.

The survival rate for childhood cancer is 85.5% five years after diagnosis and continues to improve thanks to treatments and advances in research. In the Region of Murcia, the "Survivor Follow-up Program" monitors more than 800 children who have overcome some form of cancer to prevent complications in adulthood.

The regional government collaborates with Afacmur to help improve the care and psychological well-being of children with cancer so that their emotional and educational development is as appropriate as possible to their special circumstances. The Department of Health has an agreement with this association to improve the quality of healthcare for children with cancer.
